Grand Theft Auto VI hits PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Nov 19, with pre-downloads opening Nov 10. Here are the dates, the 212GB storage requirement, Standard vs Ultimate, and what we know about Vice City.
This is it, fam. After years of trailers, rumours and countdowns, Grand Theft Auto VI finally drops on November 19, 2026, and I'm hyped. We're heading back to Vice City, and I want everybody in the squad ready to play the second it unlocks. Here's everything you need to know before launch night, minus the noise.
Key dates
- Nov 10, 2026: pre-download opens for pre-orders (midnight local time)
- Nov 12, 2026: physical code-in-box copies ship
- Nov 19, 2026: GTA VI launches on PS5/PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S (midnight local time)
- Nov 20, 2026: 34-track official soundtrack on vinyl
- Dec 11, 2026: original score by Justice on vinyl
There's no PS4 version, so you'll need a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
Get ready for launch day
- Pre-order. Pre-orders are what unlock early pre-download, and reported pre-order bonuses include the Vintage Vice City pack and a free month of GTA+.
- Free up at least 212 GB. That's the minimum free space PlayStation lists for PS5. Clear out old games or captures now, not on launch night.
- Pre-download on Nov 10. It starts at midnight local time. Get it done early so you're not stuck watching a progress bar on the 19th.
- Update your console. Install the latest system software ahead of time so nothing slows you down at midnight.
Buying physical? Heads up: the box holds a download code, not a disc, and those copies ship November 12. You'll still be downloading the full game, so the storage step applies to you too.
Editions
- Standard Edition: digital, or physical code-in-box. $79.99 in the US (before tax).
- Ultimate Edition: digital only on PlayStation Store, adding premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and more. $99.99 in the US (before tax).
What we know about gameplay
At launch GTA VI is a single-player story set in Vice City, starring two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Multiplayer/online is reportedly not arriving until 2027, so the early weeks are all about the campaign.
Features that have been reported so far:
- Seamless character switching between Jason and Lucia.
- Dead Eye-style focus targeting for slowing things down in a firefight.
- Smarter police AI, so expect the heat to feel a lot more serious.
- Side activities to get into when you need a break from the story.
Collectors, two more dates for you: a 34-track official soundtrack is coming on vinyl Nov 20, and an original score by Justice follows Dec 11.
